All About Localized Estrogen Therapy
A quick browsing of the Internet revels an overwhelming number of websites dedicated to sex and intimacy and almost as many dedicated to helping improve sex lives. Although a number of these websites seem to be aimed at men, an increasing number are aimed at women, as well. As many women age, the production of estrogen decreases dramatically. During menopause, the production decreases even more, which is why many women choose to undergo estrogen therapy. A new estrogen treatment, known as localized estrogen, can make sexual intercourse easier and more pleasurable, but can it help increase female libido?
Localized Estrogen Treatments
Localized estrogen treatments usually take the form of a pill that is inserted into the vagina, or in the form of creams that are applied directly to the vaginal area or as rings that are inserted inside the vagina. The application of estrogen directly to the vagina can help increase the amount of natural lubrication that a women creates during sex. Often times, during low estrogen periods or during/after menopause, it is difficult or even impossible for some women to lubricate properly. This can be a significant psychological barrier for some women, which, in turn, could act as a libido depressant.
Talk To Your Doctor
The first step in determining if you need localized estrogen treatment is to speak to your doctor. He or she will be able to diagnose and prescribe something for your current condition. It could be that you are suffering from a condition that localized estrogen can not help with. Currently, it is unclear if localized estrogen treatments impact the libido directly since there are so many different factors that go into deciding one’s sex drive. Experts agree, however, that such treatments can increase confidence which can work as a female libido enhancer.
Sexual Dysfunction
It is believed that sexual dysfunction is one of the least reported but most common medical conditions in the United States and around the world. Since such a large majority of people have illogical hang ups about their sex life, many are too shy or too embarrassed to seek help with their sex life. The increased visibility of erection drugs in recent years has helped to remove some of the stigma from men’s sexual health, but women’s sexual health (not to mention pleasure) is still somewhat taboo.
Other Treatments
If you find that you are suffering from feminine dryness, there are many different possible causes out there that you can try to remove from your environment before you approach your doctor about localized estrogen. Often times, the use of antibiotics can play havoc with a woman’s ability to create vaginal moisture. Douching has been condemned by every reputable doctor for the last two decades, but many women still do so on a regular basis. If you have recently been using tampons, it can take some women a few days to return to their usual level of lubrication. It is unknown if localized estrogen therapy is a legitimate female libido enhancer, but it likely won’t make things worse.
